Pantone named Marsala the color of the year, but we'd like to disagree. The shade crowding everyone's Pinterest and Instagram feeds — and popping up on design blogs and your best friend's fashionably decorated house — is a gray and beige combo, or "greige."
Dubbed "the hottest neutral" by HGTV magazine, the modern hue has thousands of pins and likes on Pinterest, appearing on everything from tea cups to bath tubs.
Kelly Porter, an interior designer and color consultant, told Houzz that "when you combine the contemporary sophistication of gray with the earthy qualities of beige, you get ... an organic, elegant neutral that is very easy on the eyes." And Elizabeth Burns, an interior designer in South Carolina, explained the colors' appeal on her blog. "It is such a great neutral and adds a clean, modern feel to just about any space," she says.
